Tories name by-election candidate

THE Conservatives have named local resident Mark Chapman to contest the forthcoming Warrington Borough Council by-election at Poulton North on Thursday November 17.
Mr Chapman (right), a warehouseman and delivery driver for a tyre wholesaler fought the earlier by-election in July, coming third behind the Liberal Democrats and Labour.
He has agreed to fight again – but believes it would have been better if the election had been left until the full local government elections in May, saving the council taxpayers about £14,000.
He said: “This being the third election in the ward this year, we are now talking about a combined bill of approximately £40,000.
“In the interests of democracy and the local electorate I have agreed that my name be put forward so the residents of Poulton north have a voice.”
The Liberal Democrats have named Poulton-with-Fearnhead parish councillor Sandra Bradshaw to contest the by-election while Labour has named Billy Lines-Rowlands, from Birchwood.
It will be the third time voters in the ward have gone to the polls this year. The by-election has been caused by the tragic death of Liberal Democrat Colin Oliver, shortly after he had won the seat in July with a majority of 211 over Labour.
