Photowalk at top science lab

AMATEUR and professional photographers will have the chance to “snap” some of the UK’s best science scenes during a “photowalk” in Warrington.
For the first time photographers will be given a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes tour of the STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory.
Ninety photographers will be invited to take photos that provide a fresh perspective on the world-leading facilities at the laboratory and the world-changing science and technology it hosts.
The photowalk takes place on Wednesday November 23 and the best of the photos will be entered in unique regional and national competitions.
Judges will include award-wining photographer Max Alexander, a representative from the Royal Photographic Society, professional scientists and members of the public.
Max said: “STFC’s photowalks are a fantastic and rare opportunity for members of the public and enthusiastic photographers to capture exciting images at some of the UK’s leading science and technology facilities.”
Photowalks, which involve walking with the specific aim of taking photos, are a well-established communal activity enjoyed by amateur and professional photographers all over the world. The event at Daresbury will visit a range of leading-edge facilities such as the ALICE and EMMA accelerators and the Cockcroft Laboratories.
Professor Colin Whitehouse, deputy chief executive and director of STFC Campus Strategy, said: “We want these photowalks to generate some really striking exterior and interior images that will raise awareness of our cutting-edge science and technology.
“We’re excited to see what eye-catching and surprising results a wide range of photographic styles and approaches will produce.”
Each photographer will be invited to upload five photos on STFC’s website within a week of the event and there will be prizes for winners.
Photographers interested in taking part in this free event should register online at www.stfc.ac.uk/Public%20and%20Schools/37355.aspx

  1. I’m going. Has anyone else of the forum registered yet 🙂 I just hope PJ hasn’t as with his eye for photography we’ll be doomed. Sounds like a good afternoon out and a chance to see something a bit different. If anyone wants to avoid me I’m on session 3 (2 ’til 4) at the Daresbury ha ha 🙂
