WHEN former Brownie leader Eunice Stobbie celebrated her 100th birthday she received more than 100 cards – as well as a telegram from King Charles.
There was a big party at the Westvale House Care Home, Old Hall, Warrington where she now lives – and among the guests were Guide and Brownie leaders she has known for years.
Son Andrew was there too – as well as staff, relatives, friends and other residents.
A special birthday cake was made by Westvale House chef Dave – and it wasn’t the only one. There must be more than one for a 100th birthday.
Together with Brownie friends, Eunice reminisced about the good old times, made the Brownie Promise and sang campfire songs.
Eunice was born in Widnes – the eldest of seven children. She thrived in her career as a secretary before meeting husband Albert and going on to have their only son, Andrew.
Andrew is a regular visitor to Westvale House where he is a volunteer and part of the Gardening Club and more recently worked with the team at the home to secure a beautiful piano, which was played to accompany the camp fire songs.
He said: “The 100th birthday celebrations showed how much love there is for Mum. The Brownie campfire songs and actions brought back lots of memories for her.”
Eunice said: “I didn’t believe I was 100! I couldn’t believe the year was 2025 – I was born in 1925.”-
Eunice’s cards came from far and wide – the furthest from Australia.
Westvale House Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers.
