WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones joined residents and community volunteers in Burtonwood to officially open the “B Festival”, organised by 15-year-old Jade Mitchell and friends.
The event, held at Burtonwood Catholic Club, was organised to raise money for MIND – the leading mental health charity in England and Wales.
Organisers raised in excess of £500 through a variety of stalls, ranging from arts and crafts, books, cakes and paintings.
Helen said: “The ‘B Festival’ is a fantastic initiative, and is a credit to everyone who helped to organise the day and bring everything together.
“Whilst sometimes, our young people can all be tarnished by the behaviour of a small minority, I know that the majority want to contribute to their communities and the ‘B Festival’ is a prime example of that.”
Helen also went on to praise organiser Jade for her community work, saying: “The Festival was not just a successful fundraiser, thanks to the sums raised for MIND, but also a great way to bring the community in Burtonwood together. Jade and her friends should be enormously proud of the work they have done, and I was delighted to open the event.”
Organisers are already planning a follow-up event for next year.
