Council warning on road safety

IF a child is injured or killed in a road accident near a Stockton Heath school the borough council could be reminded that it would not take action according to a local councillor.
Stockton Heath Parish Council has been campaigning for 20 mph speed limits and traffic calming measures outside the new Stockton Heath Primary School.
But clerk Peter Briggs said he had received a reply from the borough council to say there were no plans to introduce 20mph or traffic calming measures as it was “not a high enough priority.”
Coun Stephen Taylor said: “I hope that we put that reply on file, so that when the first child is injured or killed, we can bring it up.”
Residents have complained at several parish council meetings about the speed of traffic near the school in West Avenue and surrounding streets.
They say it is a “rat run” and children’s lives are at risk, and called for action to be taken.
