POLICE are investigating an arson attack on Warrington Wolves’ former home – Wilderspool Stadium.
The blaze was in a disused bar area on the first floor at the Fletcher Street end of the stadium.
Damage was caused to furniture and there was extensive smoke damage to the room involved.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the outbreak with a hose reel jet.
It appeared that a quantity of rubbish had been set alight and had spread to other parts of the room.
Police and fire service experts are still collecting information about the blaze.
In a separate incident, fire crews went to Oxenham Road, Orford to reports of a kitchen fire.
On arrival, they found the blaze – involving a cooker – was already out.
A woman occupant who had suffered smoke inhalation was given oxygen therapy.
