WARRINGTON has received a £2.5 million funding boost to unlock a stalled housing scheme in the town and provide new affordable homes for local people.
The support from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) will enable work to start on the construction of 54 new homes.
The Bovis Homes Westminster Place scheme will provide 48 houses for social rent and six HomeBuy Direct houses.
The scheme has been stalled for some time because of the effects of the recession.
Deborah McLaughlin, director North West at the HCA, said: “We have worked closely with Warrington Borough Council to put this important housing scheme back on track.
“Westminster Place will provide a great mix of new housing to widen choices for people looking to buy or rent in the area”
Coun Bob Barr, (pictured) the council’s executive member for planning, regeneration and housing said: “I am delighted to hear the town will receive this financial support.
“The provision of affordable housing and the prospect of employment opportunities for local people are very welcome in the current economic climate. This is good news for the whole community.”
