132 object to plan for housing on Green Belt land

A TOTAL of 132 letters of objection have been received to a plan  to build up to 55 houses on Green Belt land at Lymm.

Three members of Warrington Borough Council – Cllr Ian Marks, Cllr Robert Hignett and Cllr Wendy Johnson  –  local MP Esther McVey  and Lymm Parish Council have also lodged objections to the plan which involves Grade 2 agricultural land bounded by Reddish Lane, Reddish Crescent and Rushgreen Road.

But planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved. They say there are no adverse impacts arising from the granting of planning permission that would outweigh the benefits.

They also argue that having regard to the housing needs for the borough, the proposed development is considered appropriate in the Green Belt.

Objectors say the borough council has adequate land for housing for the next five years

They say there are no special circumstances that would require designated Green Belt to be developed. They also raise fears about increased traffic on the narrow and  already busy Rushgreen Road,

There are also concerns that the development would result in the merging of two district areas – the village centre and the Oughtrington/Rushgreen areas.

The development would also set a dangerous precedent that would conflict with both national and local planning policies.

The outline planning application is from Nightingale Land, a Congleton-based company which specialises in the acquisition of farm land with future housing potential.

Warrington’s development management committee will consider the application on Wednesday, July 15.
