Alcohol Awareness Week takes place from 6 to12 July 2026 and this year’s theme is ‘Alcohol and Me’ which invites people to take a moment to consider how alcohol may be affecting their lives.
In a culture where alcohol is often presented as central to celebrations, relaxation and everyday moments, this campaign aims to shift the narrative – encouraging honest reflection and informed choices.
While alcohol may feel like a routine part of life, its impact is not always obvious. From sleepless nights, low energy, and increased anxiety, to longer-term risks such as liver disease, high blood pressure, stroke and cancer, alcohol can influence both physical and mental wellbeing, as well as relationships and productivity.
Reducing alcohol consumption can have benefits beyond the individual, helping to build stronger families, healthier relationships, and more resilient communities.
A range of drop-in events and activities will take place throughout the week in Warrington, offering information, support and opportunities to get involved:
- Monday 6 July, Drop-in session at Living Well Hub, 9.30am –12.30pm
- Tuesday 7 July, Information stalls at Warrington Hospital, alongside an Alcohol Awareness football tournament at Whitecross Community Centre, 12pm – 3pm
- Thursday 8 July, Information stall in Golden Square, 9.00am – 3pm
All events are free, friendly, and open to everyone, whether you are looking for advice, support, or simply want to learn more.
Cllr Tony Higgins, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, said: “This Alcohol Awareness Week, I encourage residents to take some time to think about what alcohol means in their lives. Whether you’re looking for information, support or simply a conversation, our local events offer a welcoming opportunity to take a positive step towards better health and wellbeing.”
