Warrington Rylands’ youngsters showed a touch of class when they took a 6-1 victory against a hard-battling Pilkington FC in the Liverpool Senior Cup.
Manager Neil Reynolds took the opportunity to rest several of his first team and give a chance to the young players who are coming through the ranks, none of whom looked out of place.
It took a while for the team to get up and running but once Sam Muyengwa had scored the first goal they began to gel and take control of the game.
It was certainly a night to remember for 16 year old Sam who bagged the match ball after scoring a hat-trick during his first full match with Rylands.
Goals from Adam Caddick, Jake Burton and Ben Hardcastle completed the tally with Tom Douglas claiming a consolation goal in the 90th minute against reserve keeper Jerry Akpo.
The night was special for the Hardcastle family when both brothers took to the pitch for the first time. Former Blackburn Rovers player and now first team coach Lewis claimed he was ‘a little rusty’ after coming off the bench but ‘it felt nice being out there with the lads’. However, it was his big brother Ben who claimed the fifth goal, ‘outshining’ his sibling.
Reynolds says he now has a selection headache for Saturday’s game when Leek Town visit The Quickline Logistics Arena.
