POPULAR on the live music scene, Porters Ale House in Warrington town centre has closed again – after running out of beer!
The future of the pub, which has had a chequered history, is now unclear.
According to an independent what’s on facebook page promoting the venue, it had to close earlier this month after running out of beer, stating there weren’t enough customers to pay for more beer.
A number of bands also expressed disappointment at not being informed of the closure and cancellation of forthcoming gigs.
Porters Alehouse was known for its live music and “alternative scene,” and had previously closed in 2019 after a history of ownership changes and licence issues. The pub, located on Buttermarket Street, was originally named the Cross Keys.
It is a long, narrow, multi-roomed building located next to the former St. Mary’s School on Buttermarket Street.
A home for live music: For a time, Porters was a key venue for Warrington’s alternative music scene, hosting live rock acts and DJs on weekends. It was a particularly welcoming hub for local and touring rock bands.
The premises featured in a tour of town centre pubs on Warrington Worldwide’s Facebook and TikTok pages yesterday evening.
Another town centre pub which also appears to have closed down is The Three Pigeons pub, once the town’s railway station on Tanners Lane.
