Tiny cyclists lead the way at Bright Horizons eco-friendly commute day

Bright Horizons Warrington Day Nursery and Preschool recently swapped car horns for bicycle bells as children and the team took part in a special Cycle to Nursery Day, supporting both local environmental goals and early years education.

The initiative held recently was part of the nursery’s commitment to the Eco-Schools programme and reflects its role in helping children develop sustainable habits from the very beginning of their learning journey. By encouraging families to cycle instead of drive, the nursery hopes to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a greener, healthier Warrington.
The event was also inspired by Bright Horizons’ Nurture Approach, which places children’s wellbeing and curiosity at the centre of learning. Through activities like this, the nursery supports children to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging, whilst also understanding their connection to the wider world.

Rebecca, the Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Warrington, said: “We were so proud of our little cyclists! The children were buzzing around with excitement and really embraced the message behind the day. It’s been a great opportunity to start conversations about the environment in an age-appropriate way, and we had lots of fun too!”
The team’s efforts align with wider local sustainability efforts, including Warrington Borough Council’s Environment and Climate Emergency Commission and the Travel Warrington initiative, which encourages residents to choose active, sustainable travel options wherever possible.
