MORE than 40 amazing supporters of St. Rocco’s Hospice went the extra mile during May, raising more than £5,000 for patient care through the hospice’s new virtual ‘100k in May’ fundraising challenge.
The month-long challenge encouraged participants to complete 100 kilometres throughout May in any way they chose, walking, running, cycling, swimming, or combining activities, participants covered an amazing 2000km during May – while raising vital funds to support the specialist care provided by St. Rocco’s Hospice.
The challenge saw supporters of all ages get involved, with participants embracing the opportunity to improve their fitness, spend time with loved ones and support their local hospice at the same time.
Funds raised from the challenge will help St. Rocco’s continue providing compassionate care and support for patients with life-limiting illnesses, as well as emotional and practical support for their loved ones.
Eight St. Rocco’s Hospice staff members successfully took part in the 100K in May Challenge.
Leanne Jones, Community Fundraiser, took part and said, “I wanted to experience the event alongside everyone taking part so I could be a good motivator for the team. I’m also trying to get fitter, so the challenge was the perfect opportunity to kick-start a long-term goal.
I’ve mainly been walking with my dog Dora, who is a little superstar. She’s nearly 11 but still has plenty of energy. My niece and nephew also joined me on some mini walks, and they were the cutest little St. Rocco’s supporters.
I made a strong start by completing a few longer walks early on, which took the pressure off later in the month. Although I reached the 100k target by day 18, I’ve continued doing as much as possible so I can keep improving my fitness and raise as much money as possible.”
Marie Egerton, Director of Commercial Development, also took on the challenge and said, “I took part because it was a challenge I could fit around a busy life while supporting a cause I truly believe in. It was also a great opportunity to raise awareness of the vital work St. Rocco’s Hospice does across our community. Although balancing the challenge during the week was tough, the incredible support from sponsors kept me motivated. Knowing I was helping such a valued local charity made every step worthwhile, and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of it.”
100K in May will be back for 2027, so keep your eyes peeled for more information on how to take part!
