WARRINGTON Rylands’ run of wins finally came to an end as Ilkeston Town won 0-1 at The Hive Arena.

A goal within seven minutes was enough for Ilkeston Town to take all three points from Saturday’s match at Gorsey Lane.

Ilkeston were off the blocks quickly and Jamie Walker managed to loft the ball over the Rylands’ defence as Luke Pilling could only watch the shot drop underneath the crossbar for an early lead.

On a pitch that was wet and slippy it was hard work playing neat football on the ground and so both sides resorted to long clearances from the back whenever they could. Tackles were often mistimed with players continuing to slide into the opposition; Harrison Hopper became another injury worry for Warrington as he was clobbered by a dangerous tackle.

Halftime couldn’t have come soon enough for the home side who rushed into the changing rooms for Manager Neil Reynold’s team talk. It must have been a good one because the second half belonged to The Blues. Wave upon wave of attacks were aimed at Matthew Yates but he and his defence laid their bodies on the line to keep out the equaliser.

In his post-match interview Reynolds praised his squad by saying: “We were brilliant – how we didn’t score is beyond me – you had to be here to believe it.”

With a week of training before Warrington Rylands travel to ‘second in the league’ Guiseley, Reno is hoping that his injury list has been reduced.
