SCUNTHORPE United FC sit 37 places above Warrington Rylands but could not stop the determination of The Blues who beat them 1-2 at Glanford Park in the FA Trophy.

Warrington, playing in their ‘away’ red kit, were backs to the wall straight from kick-off as the professional side piled on the pressure. Luke Pilling could only look as the ball bounced off the bar, but was soon to become the hero of the match with some amazing point-blank stops. However, a long range shot from Kian Scales on 20 minutes put the home side in the lead.

Rylands became more determined and battled on, gaining a free kick just 9 minutes later. A perfectly placed kick from Ben Hardcastle found the head of a diving George Waring who beat Maison Campbell for the equaliser.

The ‘Iron’ began the second half as they did the first but The Blues defended as a group and blocked every shot that came toward goal. Incredible goal-line clearances and some unbelievable saves by Pilling kept the home side out

53 minutes into the game a set piece sent the ball into the penalty area; up jumped Matt Regan to head the ball into the ground and into the net.

The remainder of the match had Warrington Rylands fans on edge as they watched Scunthorpe push for an equalising goal and take the game to penalties but it was not to be and the NPL side came home the victors and through to the next round.

On Tuesday Warrington Rylands are back in league action as they travel to Gainsborough Trinity for a 7.45 kick-off.
