THE Daresbury Expressway near Warrington was closed in both directions on Friday afternoon as emergency services attended a two-vehicle collision involving a spillage of cooking oil.

At 14.22 fire & rescue crews from Runcorn and Penketh were alerted to reports of a collision on the Daresbury Expressway

There was nobody trapped but due to spilt liquid the carriageway was closed in both directions for the clean-up operation.

At 15:05 crews gave first aid to one casualty at the scene. They also used absorbent matting and specialist equipment to ensure the liquid, which is believed to be cooking oil, didn’t enter nearby drains. Police also attended to deal with the road closure.

UPDATE: 16:00 – The road was still closed while the clean-up was in progress. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
