Houghton Weavers are returning to Warrington for a special, intimate Christmas concert in December.
The much-loved folk band have told fans to expect Weaver classics, festive favourites and stories as well as a sprinkle of comedy with plenty of opportunities for a singalong throughout.
It will take place at Winmarleigh House in Winmarleigh Street for one night only on Friday, 11 December.
Houghton Weavers have now been entertaining audiences all over the north west and much further afield for an incredible five decades – and have never strayed from their mission to ‘keep folk smiling’.
Highlights have included recording at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and even having their own BBC TV show called Sit Thi Deawn in the late 70s.
In recent years, they have performed as a headline act at The Great British Folk Festival, while their single, Wild Mountain Thyme, appeared in the Heritage Charts Top 40 and is due to appear in the upcoming film, Between Weathers.
Steve Millington has been with the band for around 30 years and has also arranged and produced 23 of the group’s studio albums.
He said: “I’m a local lad, I grew up in Thelwall, so it’s like coming home for me. We love performing in Warrington, and Winmarleigh House is a beautiful building.
“We’re going to be doing lots of Christmas items, some comedy and some singalongs of course. You never know what to expect at a Weaver Christmas concert so please come along.
“It’ll be a great night, and we’d like to thank our friends at Culture Warrington for making it possible.”
Warrington’s Dave Warwick – a retired talent agent who discovered Rick Astley and worked in the entertainment and media industry for more than 50 years – is a close friend of the band.
He added: “This is a must go-to show and it’s one that you can take all the family to see and enjoy.
“It was a complete sell-out last year. This fabulous band really do ‘keep folk smiling’ with their stories and music.”
