Warrington family star in national campaign to highlight elderly care crisis

A FAMILY from Warrington has starred in a new campaign to raise awareness of the elderly care crisis in the UK, and the importance of having open conversations about elderly care and preparing for the future.

Linda (73) starred alongside her daughter Tracey (47) and granddaughter Ella (21) to have an open conversation about ageing and the challenges around preparing for future care needs in order to inspire other families to do the same.
“You don’t want to discuss that part, because you think it won’t come,” Linda explains, talking about planning for the future with her granddaugther Ella in the candid video. “I was the same when I was younger. You think your Mum’s always going to be there, but, you know, you don’t want to see it. You don’t want to look that far ahead.”

Highlighting some of the challenges people face as they age, Linda said: “The first thing that you’ll notice when you’re older is the stairs. That’s the first thing.”
“I like to be organised, and I don’t want you to worry about anything when I die. And you don’t want to burden other people with the care.”
“I know she’ll do her best for me and if she can’t cope, I don’t expect her to. What will be will be.”
The family had ‘The Talk’ about planning for Linda’s future care needs as part of TakingCare’s #HaveTheTalk campaign, which is encouraging more Brits to get talking about elderly care following findings that 1 in 2 adults haven’t had conversations about care with their elderly parents.

The campaign revealed that many Brits are going to be hit with ‘unexpected’ care bills costing £200,000-£240,000 in the future, as 1 in 2 haven’t made proper financial plans on how they’re going to pay for their care.
Linda and her family have taken part in the campaign to have ‘The Talk’ about elderly care, so that they’re better prepared for the future. The family hopes that their conversation will inspire others to do the same.
