Warrington Wolves make light work of Castleford

WARRINGTON Wolves breezed to a sixth successive victory as they defeated Castleford 38-0 on Friday night.

It was a much happier return to his former club for Daryl Powell than last season, as they continued their fine start to the Super League season by running in seven tries.

The Wolves pack was dominant, and even without scrum half Josh Drinkwater they made light work of a poor Castleford team.

From the moment Sam Kasiano crashed over after eight minutes, the result was only going one way. Warrington had might light work of yards through the middle in the early stages, and a rampaging Kasiano run set up the field position for the first try that he claimed himself.

Although Castleford had managed to cling on to Warrington’s coat tails for the first quarter, they pressed the self-destruct button on 20 minutes when Greg Eden threw out a wild pass on the first tackle in to his own in-goal area and Matty Russell won the race to touch down.

Russell, who started in place of Josh Thewlis absent due to a concussion last week, would go over for a second try late in the half, finishing neatly in the right corner.

By then, Thomas Mikaele had burst through from 10 metres for a third try and at half time Warrington were 24-0 having barely got out of second gear.

Their dominance continued in the second half and though initially met with some resistance, three tries in 10 minutes gave the large volume of travelling support even more to cheer in the swirling rain.

The imperious Paul Vaughan finished his 51 minute stint from the start with a try, reaching out to put the ball on the whitewash after taking an offload from George Williams, before Williams himself did the same five minutes later after a neat link up with Ben Currie.

Danny Walker, who replaced Daryl Clark carrying a knock midway through the first half, then burst through the line from dummy half and put the ball up through the back door for Matty Nicholson to shift inside for Matt Dufty to score.

Although no further tries followed, Warrington had complete control and even when called in to rare defensive action at their own end, they stood firm as Castleford were nilled at home for the second time this season.
