POLICE have been receiving increasing reports of cold callers operating in the Wa\rrington area, often carrying cards claiming to be ex-convicts working with the permission of the Chief Constable.

The cold callers have been knocking on doors and offering to carry out work. There have also been groups going round selling items such as dishcloths and cleaning materials, claiming to be ex-convicts.

Police advice is don’t get work done by anyone knocking at the door and never let them have money before a job is done and if any issues contact trading standards.
The sellers are often selling very cheap products that can be bought at Pound shops or other stores cheaper they are also quite aggressive when turned away.
If this happens call 101 straight away or if in fear 999.

Meanwhile, at Burtonwood & Winwick there have been reports of bogus callers in the area claiming to be doing checks on water for bacteria.
Local PCSO Tony Spruce said: “These are not genuine officials and do not let them in your homes
“If you have anyone trying to gain entry to your address Check ID
“If unsure refuse entry and call the police.
“If someone is calling without an appointment ask them to make an appointment by phone first.
He added: “Please look out for any vulnerable neighbours and if anything suspicious please call it in on 101.”
