WARRINGTON Wolves consolidated their top three berth in Super League with a routine 26-6 win away at Huddersfield.

After the frustration of having two successive home games postponed due to COVID outbreaks among their opponents, either side of a disappointing away defeat at Wakefield, the Wolves returned to winning ways by scoring four tries.

Blake Austin and Josh Charnley were surprise omissions from the squad and it took 17 minutes for those playing to break the deadlock after a relatively lacklustre start.

Castleford-bound Jake Mamo scored two first half tries to haunt his former club, the first coming from a Josh Thewlis break down the right and he found the centre on his inside to score, before Mamo outpaced the Giants defence following a break down the middle by Gareth Widdop.

Stefan Ratchford converted both tries and then added a penalty on the stroke of halftime after Huddersfield forward Chris McQueen was sinbinned for a professional foul to send the Wolves in 14-0 in front.

They rarely look troubled in the second half, and the game was put beyond any doubt with 12 minutes to go when Mike Cooper went over.

Jake Wardle scored an interception try for the hosts, goaled by Oliver Russell, but Warrington had the final say through Toby King, who scored out wide with two minutes to go.

Warrington Wolves are back in action again on Monday at home to St Helens, ahead of the Magic Weekend on September 4/5.
