TWO fire crews were involved in tackling a barn blaze at a farm at Higher Whitley, near Warrington for more than six hours yesterday.
Two fire engines, one from Lymm and one from Stockton Heath attended a fire at a farm in Old Mill Lane, Higher Whitley, near Antrobus, shortly ebfore 11.30am.
On arrival crews discovered that the fire involved around 20 square metres of hay in a barn.
All animals and machinery were moved away from the area and a water shuttle was set up to get enough water to the barn.
Firefighters extinguished the fire using a main jet and two hose reel jets. A ground monitor was also used.
Farming machinery was utilised to remove some hay from the barn.
Once the fire looked to be out the area affected by it was damped down. A thermal imaging camera was used to identify hotspots.
Firefighters left the scene once they were satisfied that it was safe.
They were in attendance for more than six hours.
