Overflow car park plan for Warrington Hospital

PLANS for a temporary car park for 58 vehicles to accommodate staff from Warrington Hospital are to come before the borough council’s planning committee next week.
The proposals involve a former garage site in Wellfield Street, Warrington which would be used for five years.
Objections have been lodged by local councillors Jeff Richards and Steve Parish – and the plan has been deferred once to allow the committee to visit the site.
A similar scheme for 63 vehicles are refused last year.
The site is in a predominantly residential area about 300 metres from the hospital entrance. It would be used Monday-Friday only.
Cllr Richards says the hospital has failed to tackle its parking issues for many years.
When a multi-storey car park was built on the hospital site some years ago it was designed to it could be extended upwards.
Cllr Parish says there is little difference between the present scheme and the plan refused last year.
He is worried about an evening hour when employees leaving the hospital will cause traffic problems.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
They say the hospital has produced a travel plan which addresses the issues which led to last year’s application being refused.
Warrington Hospital currently 1,510 parking spaces, plus an off-site staff car park with 75 spaces.
It receives many complaints from patients unable to find parking spaces – and surveys have shown up to 200 cars parked in non-defined parking spaces on the busiest clinic days.
