Think twice before binning old clothes

WARRINGTON residents are being asked to think twice before they put unwanted clothes in the bin.
The borough council wants to people to donate unwanted clothing to a charity or recycle them in a clothing bank rather than throw them away.
In the average household, there’s more than £1,000 worth of clothes that haven’t been worn in the last year.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, the council’s member for environment, said: “We want to encourage Warrington residents to think about how they dispose of their clothes and to recycle more.
“Please don’t put your clothes in the bin. If they are still wearable, pass on your unwanted clothes to a charity so they can be enjoyed by someone else. If they can’t be worn again, you can recycle them, so they can come back as something new. This will ultimately help reduce the impact on the environment too.
“We’d also like to remind people that clothes and shoes cannot be recycled in the blue bins, but can be recycled at recycling sites throughout Warrington and the three community recycling centres.”
