terryoneillINDEPENDENT building and civil engineering company Construction Partnership UK has been appointed to build the first part of Warrington’s £107 million Bridge Street Regeneration Project – the temporary market building.
North West-based CPUK will begin construction of the 25,500 sq ft building in January and it is expected the retail shell will take 35 weeks to build.
The existing Warrington Market will move into the building in early 2017 – and at no time will the market cease trading.
Traders will carry on business in the temporary building while the new £10 million permanent market is built and eventually the temporary building will be converted for future retail use.
Cllr Terry O’Neill (pictured), leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “CPUK’s appointment is great news. The construction of the temporary market is such an integral part of the Bridge treet Regeneration Project as it will provide our market traders with the setting they need to continue trading whilst WBC deliver the brand new, permanent market hall building.”
Steve Park, managing director of Warrington and Co said: “The appointment of CPUK marks yet another positive step forward for the Bridge Street scheme and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to source a locally based firm with such solid experience and expertise.”
CPUK has a wealth of experience in the retail sector and on delivering major regeneration programmes across the North of England, Scotland and the Midlands, working with major names in the commercial property sector including Land Securities and Peel Holdings, including Peel’s regeneration of Partington village in Trafford.
CPUK managing director Steve Burke said: “We are delighted to be working on The Bridge Street regeneration Project which is an ambitious investment project that will bring new retail, business and leisure facilities into the heart of Warrington. The construction phase of the project will bring employment opportunities for some of the local population and construction related businesses.
“As a company firmly based in the North West of England we are also very pleased to have been appointed on what is a key part of the development work taking place in the town. I’m sure our considerable experience in delivering retail projects on time and to budget played a major part in sealing our appointment.”
When completed in 2019, the £107 million retail and leisure-led Bridge Street development  will comprise a state-of-the-art, 13 screen, 2,500 seat, multiplex Cineworld cinema, a new 42,000 sq ft market hall, several family restaurants, a new 1,100 space multi-storey car park, new  council offices, retail units and a new public square.
