LEADING politician William Hague dropped in on Frodsham to meet local businessas and help promote “Small Business Saturday.”
The former Conservative leader and current Leader of the Commons declared Frodsham “top of the shops.”
He was in town as guest of Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans who invited him to meet with small businesses and market traders.
Frodsham has many small and independent retailers and Small Business Saturday, on December 6, aims to promote and recognise the important work they do in helping to keep the economy strong.
During the tour Mr Hague and Mr Evans dropped into the family-run Devonshire Bakery to help promote Frodsham’s Christmas shopping challenge, which encourages people to shop in the village. This Christmas has seen double the number of participating businesses.
Mr Evans said: “It was wonderful to be able to invite William to Frodsham to meet its terrific residents, and see what a bustling and enterprising place it is. “Frodsham is undeniably a jewel in Cheshire’s crown and has many small and independent businesses as well as the market. It’s these businesses which are helping the economy and getting this country back on track – they are doing well and it’s a sign that our long term economic plan for communities across the country is working.”
Mr Hague, who David Cameron described as being the ‘greatest living Yorkshireman’ praised Mr Evans for his work in his constituency.
He said: “I greatly enjoyed visiting Frodsham and meeting so many traders, local businesses and shoppers. It is a town of great character and I can see why it is so well supported.
“Graham Evans is a fantastic MP, who is well known in the House of Commons for working so hard for his constituents, and it is always a great pleasure to support him in his work.”hague frodsham 1
