Wolves invest in future

WARRINGTON Wolves are continuing to invest in youth development and recognise the hard work done within the community game to support young players.
The club will launch its 2013 scholarship programme next week. Those players selected for the Warrington Collegiate sponsored U16 Academy have excelled for their amateur clubs and schools, and will also include players who performed well at U15 level.
Players have progressed from a wide variety of clubs including: Latchford, Crosfields and Rylands from Warrington; Chester, Leyland, Widnes Moorfield and Leigh East from the north west; and Kells and Barrow Island from Cumbria recognising the hard work put in by many coaches, volunteers and staff.
In addition new players have been contracted to progress into next year’s U19 academy. These include: Joe Furlong, Crosfields; Robert Holroyd, Siddal ARLFC; Toby King and Daniel Hirst, Meltham All Blacks ARLFC; Bradley Goulding, Widnes St Maries; Daniel Murray, Orrell St James; Jordan Burns, Kells ARLFC; and Sam Wilde, Shevington Sharks.
“It’s a great day for any junior player to sign a professional contract or to be accepted onto a professional scholarship and is a celebration of all of the hard work that these players have demonstrated throughout the past few years” commented Ben Lazenby Player Performance Manager.
“In addition it is really important to recognise all of the hard work that the amateur clubs put in across the game. It is important that we recognise the effort, and the care and attention that coaches, volunteers and parents put in over a long time to develop these young men.
“For all of these young men we cannot stress enough that they are at the start of their journey, whether taking the step onto the ladder of the scholarship, moving up a rung or two into their second year or into the U19 academy. They need to be consistent in showing development and improvement in their footballing ability and athletic development alongside their personal qualities. They wouldn’t be part of our set-up if we thought they had poor personal qualities, but now they must work even harder, dig even deeper and demonstrate their mental determination to succeed in order to continue on their exciting journey, they will have tough choices to make and a step up in intensity of training to contend with but it is also an enjoyable journey with many positive experiences to remember for a lifetime.”
