Bus apprentices take to road

NETWORK Warrington, the town’s bus company, has put its first two drivers to pass an apprentice scheme on the road.
Phillip Lockett previously worked for a waste management company. He loves driving and meeting the passengers, and passed his PCV test with no minor faults at all. He is married with a young son.
Paul Cullen lives in Woolston with his wife and two children. He previously worked for a furniture retailer and a garage. His hobbies include motor vehicle restoration.
Managing director David Squire said: “We have a small turnover of staff each year, but were keen to inject the team with fresh blood, in particular those people that outshone at interview with personality and good customer service skills.
“We work in partnership with a specialist transport college who deliver all the training to enable car licence holders to become fully fledged bus drivers. Key to this is the Government’s apprentice funding scheme, which pays the bulk of the cost of the training, thus making it more affordable for smaller companies, we recently had a huge response to our search for the next two apprentices and these will be starting their training next month.”
