CONGRATULATIONS to Warrington Disability Partnership on reaching their 20th anniversary milestone!
I feel honoured to be a trustee of this ground breaking organisation which is setting examples others should follow during these tough economic times.
Realising revenue funds are drying up from various funding bodies WDP has now set up its own trading company, The Disability Trading Company, offering the sale of disability equipment as well as a repair service to ensure its future survival.
On top of this Golden Square has generously offered a retail unit in the town centre to help further promote the good work of the organisation.
I knew WDP’s Chairman Dave Thompson prior to his life changing accident when he broke his neck playing American Football.
Not content with spending the rest of his life sitting in a wheelchair doing flower arranging and painting classes, Dave not only helped launch a charity from scratch but also got himself back into employment as a senior manager in the health service.
Yet again another fine example of how to deal with adversity in life.
For any organisation or business struggling during the current economic down turn can I suggest you look closely at the example being set by Warrington Disability Partnership and Dave Thompson.
The key to their success is partnership – by working in partnership we can hopefully ride the tough econimic storm together and come out the other side stronger for it.
Keep up the good work Dave and the Team – You are a shining example for us all to follow.

Fantastic words Gary.
His family are very proud of what Dave has achieved as well. I remember the day we asked him to be Godfather to our youngest son (just into his rehabilitation) and he declined as he didn’t feel he had anything to give to him.
WELL Dave – you HAVE had a lot to give and you have been the drive behind many people who have seen how much you have achieved and you have inspired them.
By the way – he did eventually agree to being Godfather….

WDP and Dave Thompson are an inspiration to us all, whether we have a disability or not, and I am proud to call Dave my friend. His leadership is outstanding – WDP has not just survived for 20 years, but continues to go from strength to strength.
However, WDP is not a one-man-band. I am sure Dave would be the first to acknowledge that the success of the organisation would not have been achieved without the many volunteers, paid staff and supporters who, over the past 20 years, have made WDP what it is today.
Long may it continue to thrive and prosper.

On retiring from my own Disability Equipment business 5 years ago my wife and i had a taste of the good life living in Spain. Then our Grand daughter was born so we moved back to good old blighty, On hereing of our return Dave Thompson contacted me and ask me if i could do a bit of volunteering and repair some broken down scooters at shopmobility in Warrington town center which i was delighted to help out with. Now 2 years on i am working for the Charity in a fully purpose built workshop for Recycling, Refurbishing and repairing scooters and wheelchairs for the charity and also for the genral public to help raise that little bit of income to help keep going, and i must say i am PROUD to be included as part of the team, Barry

Dave inspires me all the time, not just by his attitude to adversity but also because of his real empathy for people in all kinds of circumstances. All the years I have known him I have watched him try and walk in other peoples shoes, and understand how they think. He never judges. He never gives up. He never stops demanding more from the people around him and he always will!

I’ve know Dave for a few years (work-related in one way or another) and you summed him up perfectly Gary in a few words “shining example for us all”.
