WARRINGTON Wolves Handball team put in a solid performance against Salford – but it wasn’t quite enough.
Only one goal separated them when the final whistle was blown, however, Wolves found themselves on the wrong side of the margin. It was neck and neck between the two teams for the duration of the match. They trailed 13-12 at half time and despite their second half efforts; they were still just one step behind at full time, narrowly missing out in a 22-23 loss.
A rough patch has seen the Wolves lose their grasp on the number one spot in the National League Division One. It hasn’t been for a lack of effort or good form that they have slipped from the top of the league. In fact, their performances have been excellent. Their defensive performance against Salford in particular was outstanding throughout, but at this elite level anything can and will happen.
Stuart Clarke made himself very useful in between the posts, pulling off some miraculous saves which kept the Wolves within a sniff of victory. Up at the other end of the court, Nuno Cebola made a nuisance of himself, netting seven past a very powerful Salford defence.
Manchester HC are next to face the Wolves. It will be another tight game away from home but the Wolves will be looking to put themselves back on track and focus on regaining their position at the top of the league.
Wolves lose out – but only just!
