FIVE-star Warrington Town continued their fine start to the season with a 5-0 win away at Whitby Town.
The Yellows did a first half demolition job on their shell-shocked hosts, scoring four first half goals, with Reece Daly finishing the job with his second goal late on.
Two goals in two minutes got them on their way, Josh Vela scoring his first goal for the club with a left-footed strike on 11 minutes, before Scott Butler swept home following a Daly corner.
Vela then turned provider to release Daly in the left channel and he sat down his man in the box, and then opened up his body to curl a right-foot shot in to the far corner on 20 minutes.
Such was the state of the game, Whitby made two substitutions midway through the first half but it did little to quell the Yellows’ dominance.
Mateusz Hewelt claimed a free-kick at his near post in just about his only save, before at the other end, Vela had a shot clawed away by Jack Norton, the man tasked with succeeding long-serving Shane Bland in the Whitby goal.
The fourth goal came on the stroke of half time, a repeat of the corner routine from the second goal, with Daly finding Lewis Earl on the edge, and his shot was too hot for Norton to handle, bouncing in off a defender.
Having been six unbeaten against Warrington before this one, it was merely a case of damage limitation for the hosts in the second half.
Yellows substitute Callum Edwards nearly got on the end of Jack Goodwin’s cross and Goodwin himself came close to a fifth, diverting Luke Burke’s cross just over the bar.
Whitby did have a chance to give their fans something to cheer on 65 minutes, when Stuart Rose was felled in the box by Zayn Sadiq, but the Whitby captain crashed his penalty against the crossbar.
Daly ensured Warrington scored for the ninth half out of 10 this season when he turned poacher in the dying stages, snuffing out a back pass by Sam Kay and taking it round the ‘keeper for his fifth goal of the season.
The Yellows now have back to back home games at the newly renamed GXO Stadium against Curzon Ashton on Tuesday night and Emley next Saturday.
