Young musicians boost Mayor's appeal

MEMBERS of Warrington and district Youth Orchestra put their talents on display at the Town Hall – and helped retiring Mayor Brian Axcell take his charity appeal past the £15,000 mark.
The youngsters entertained a packed hall with music as diverse as Gounod’s “Ave Maria” to Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street.”
The evening was ably led by Abi Boardman, who is conductor of the orchestra’s junior section and wind group and Jacqui Leighton Jones who conducts the orchestra’s string group.
The Mayor said: “We saw superb playing and singing in a wide range of musical styles with so much talent on display. Afterwards we could hear that everybody in the audience enjoyed the evening tremendously.”
The Mayor’s charity is Warrington Charities Trust which distributes funds to a wide range of local causes, supporting valuable initiatives and groups that work in the borough.
