NHS staff under pressure

AS Warrington continues to be affected by the wintry weather conditions, NHS staff in the town continue to work tirelessly dealing with patients who are in urgent need of care during this difficult time.
Routine and non-urgent appointments have been postponed, but health bosses want to reassure people that those in most need are, and will continue to be treated and those whose appointments have been postponed will be contacted and given new dates.
Weather conditions are putting pressure on Warrington Hospital, where staff are working extremely hard and hospital bosses are working to robust contingency plans to ensure that people in need of treatment are being seen as quickly as possible.
Community staff, doctors and dentists are also working hard to keep services going, ensuring visits are made to priority patients. The GP out of hours and emergency dental services are also under pressure and people are asked not to turn up at Garven Place, but if in urgent need of urgent GP services out of hours ring 01925 650999 for an appointment. For urgent dental treatments, ring the Dental Access Centre on 01925 243620 for advice and appointment if necessary.
All clinic appointments at the Child Development Centre have also been postponed and patients will be provided with an alternative date.
Nicky O’Connor, chief executive of NHS Warrington said: “The weather conditions this week have put a tremendous amount of pressure on local health services, and staff are working extremely hard to ensure that people who need treatment are seen as soon as possible. At times like this, the dedication and commitment of our staff clearly shines through as many staff are working over and beyond their normal duties to keep services going. Help from the public at this time is essential and we urge people to do what they can to look after themselves, and only use services if in absolute need.
“If you are feeling generally unwell and want information on how to access the right service then visit your local NHS website at www.warrington-pct.nhs.uk or telephone NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
Please do not attend your GP practice or A&E unless absolutely necessary.”
