Reserves eight goal demolition

Warrington Town Reserves produced a stunning second half performance banging in eight goals to completely overwhelm their North West Counties reserves opponents Ashton Town and progress into the 2nd round of the Liverpool cup at Edge Green Street on Saturday.
Town scored eight times without reply in an excellent display with two goals each for Towey and Dermody ensuring Warrington’s unbeaten start to the season continued.
The first half had seen a very bright display from both teams with Warrington enjoying the majority of possession although Ashton perhaps had the best chance when Green failed to turn home a cross from close range. Town’s excellent passing football had carved out good chances for Butorins who just failed to convert Towey’s cross and Berry who headed over Parr’s through ball on the stroke of half time.
The second period began with a series of corners from the home side which Shaw in the Warrington goal dealt comfortably with. The deadlock was broken after Fifty two minutes when Prescott slid Parr through inside the penalty area and he was able to pick out Towey at the far post who easily turned the ball home.
Two minutes later Warrington increased their lead with a ferocious cross shot from James Parr which flew into the Ashton net. The home side were visibly stunned at the setback and incredibly Warrington scored a third after sixty two minutes when Tom Butorins finished a sharp passing move involving Berry, Prescott and Pithers by firing past the shell shocked home keeper from close range. With the home side now completely demoralised Warrington produced some excellent passing football and Towey was able to skip past two defenders before tapping home the fourth goal before substitute Lee Dermody added a fifth after seventy three minutes when he slid a cross from Berry past the bemused Ashton keeper. The industrious Dave Berry was able to fire home a sixth Warrington goal three minutes later when he drifted onto Parr’s pass unchallenged to beat the keeper with some ease, before Lee Dermody hit a brilliant seventh goal when he turned an Ashton defender and hit an unstoppable drive from twenty five yards. Shaw in the Warrington goal had been a virtual spectator during the rout but produced a spectacular flying save from Harris with the home side’s only real effort on goal in the second period with five minutes remaining. Still Warrington had not finished and incredibly they scored an eighth goal when Owen Ellis fired home from the edge of the penalty area after good work from the impressive Ajayi.
It had been a breathtaking display from Warrington who extended their unbeaten run to twenty six games stretching back into last season.
