WARRINGTON, currently clinging to a mid-table position in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League first division, suffered a 70-run defeat at Bramhall.
The home side batted first and posted 210-8 declared, despite fine bowling from Terry Balmer, who took 6-36.
But Warrington never looked like providing a meaningful reply, despite a useful 58 from Malcolm Agar. The side were back in the pavilion with just 140 on the board.
In division two, Grappenhall, at home to fellow promotion rivals Middlewich, lost the toss and were asked to bowl first.
The pace attack failed to make any inroads and it was only when Mark Roylance was introduced that things changed.
He demolished the upper order, taking the first six wickets to fall while at the other end Matt Titchard picked up two. Roylance mopped up the tail to finish with career best figures of 8-39 and the visitors were back in the pavilion in the 50th over for 174.
Dave Nicholson and youngster Adam Roylance put on 66 for the first wicket before Nicholson was bowled for 23. Roylance was dismissed for a fine 40 and veteran Nick Sharp steadied the innings with 38. At 147-4, Grappenhall looked well on the way.
But two quick wickets fell and 18 runs were still needed for the last three overs.
Then Matt Titchard hammered 23 not out as he steered the team home with nine balls to spare.
The 25-point haul leaves Grappenhall well placed for promotion.
