Town grab vital league win

A WONDER goal from striker Carl Rendell (pictured above) saw Warrington Town grab three vital league points as they over came sixth placed Clitheroe 1-0 at Cantilever Park.
Rendell fired in from the edge of the box giving keeper Martin Fearnon no chance giving Town sweet revenge for the 3-2 last gasp defeat at Clitheroe earlier in the season.
Clitheroe’s ill discipline saw seven players booked with full-back Liam McManus briefly seeing red in the 72nd minute for a two footed tackle only to have it rescinded by referee Oli Yates after realising it had been number three Scott Redhead who he had cautioned in the first half for a deliberate handball.
Warrington had the better of the first half with young striker Chris Gahgan seeing his shot tipped onto the bar by the keeper.
Clitheroe battled in search of an equaliser and had more of the second half and were denied what appeared to be a stonewall penalty when Adam Hunter handled inside the box. But Town also had a good penalty appeal turned down when substitute Dave Tickle appeared to be brought down from behind as he raced through on goal.
Warrington were left hanging on but just about deserved three valuable league points.

Pictures show goal scorer Carl Rendell taking on the Clitheroe defence and winger Scott Williams battling for the ball.
