TWO fire crews were called out to tackle a car fire on the hard shoulder of the M56 at the Lymm interchange last night.

On arrival shortly after 9pm the crews discovered one saloon car well alight on the hard shoulder at junction 9 of the M56 westbound.

Road closures were put in place in all westbound lanes by the highways agency.
One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
The scene was then damped down and firefighters checked the temperature with a thermal imaging camera.
