A 13-year-old girl from Lymm has turned a hobby into a business during lockdown – raising money for charity at the same time.
Emma Britton has been interested in sewing, after joining a sewing club when she was nine.
During lockdown, and after receiving positive feedback from the face coverings she made for her family, she decided to use her skills to set up Emma B Makes, creating facemasks for the local community.
Available in a range of colours and sizes, Emma’s face coverings are £5, with 10 per cent of every sale going to Emma’s chosen charity. So far, she has donated £150 to “Dress a Girl Around the World.”
As well as facemasks, Emma’s product range includes cushions, make-up bags, scrunchies, ear budcases and giftbags. All orders are delivered free of charge locally, can be collected or posted if further afield
Emma said: “I’ve always loved sewing, my grandma bought me my first sewing machine for Christmas. There wasn’t much to do in lockdown so I started making face coverings for my family and then my friends said they’d like some.
“I began getting requests from people in the village and realised I could turn this into a business and raise money for charity at the same time.
“I’m now back at school but still working away at numerous designs. The feedback I’ve received so far has been brilliant and it’s been great to raise money for a charity I’m really passionate about.”
