Road could be closed to solve “school run” parking problems

ONE of the most attractive village roads in Warrington could be closed to traffic twice a day to solve parking problems at school opening and closing times.

The proposal is an option being considered by borough council traffic officers and members of Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council to reduce hazardous parking by parents doing the “school run” to and from St Wilfrid’s CE Primary School in Church Lane, Grappenhall.
Two meetings have already taken place at the school to discuss various initiatives to solve the problem – the most recent being attended by borough council officers.
A report to the parish council says an option was discussed as part of the “School Street Initiative Programme” whereby Church Lane would potentially close via the use of bollards and two wardens at school opening and closing times.
The school could financially contribute towards the staff costs.
A further meeting is to take place with the school to discuss clarification. A possible pilot would take place later on in the year once consultation with nearby residents and business owners had been carried out.
