UPDATED: FOR the second time in less than a month a HGV brought traffic to a standstill at Lymm after an articulated vehicle carrying a crane became stuck on a humpback bridge in the village centre.
As a result local bus services were delayed as the bridge over the Bridgewater Canal in between the Bulls Head Pub and Golden Fleece was closed to vehicles and pedestrians for around five hours.
The incident happened at around 10am this morning witht he vehicle being removed at around 3pm.
The road is now open.
Local Cllr Ian Marks said “Yet again we have a problem with a vehicle being where it shouldn’t be causing traffic chaos. There are signs forbidding access but some drivers choose to ignore them.
The law must be enforced and we need to make an example of the culprits to discourage others.
“I understand that Automated Number Plate Recognition cameras are permanently installed at the gateways to Lymm but the police are reluctant to use them for enforcement. We must have another go at changing this.
“We need action before someone is hurt or a bridge is seriously damaged.”
Its the second time in less than a month a HGV has become stuck on a bridge in the village after a HGV got stuck on the historic humpback bridge over the Bridgewater Canal at Oughtrington.
Remarkably no major damage was caused.
