POLICE and fire fighters have been asked to investigate a “proliferation of fire dens” in the Lymm area.
Concerned local resident Chrissie Knight has raised the concerns after becoming aware of a large number of “fire dens” in the areas the latest in Hellsdale Wood.
“What is heart-breaking in this case is the destruction of several mature and beautiful wild rhododendron bushes in order to create the space.
“If you look at the centre of the space, you will see that there are expensive tools and a wheelbarrow chained to a tree. Somebody may be missing these.
“There are several more of these ‘secret” dens in local woodland – at least three in Sow Brook and also evidence of many fires in the open on Sow Brook, Spud Wood and the High School Playing fields.
“I can understand why local school children want some secret places to go and take their party drugs. However, if the weather warms up again there is a risk of a major fire and the loss of precious woodland. It needs to be stopped.”
The issue is now with Cheshire police with an incident number -724331.
The local fire service have have also logged it.
Chrissie added: “Both services are taking this very seriously have said that anyone who sees the fires alight should call 999 and ask for fire and police.
“I have now also established that Hellsdale Wood belongs to the Mersey Forest so will notify them as well as the environmental department of the local council.
“Maybe together we can all get this stopped.
“I did make the point to both police and fire that these are not bad kids, they just don’t understand the implications of what they are doing,” she added.

Leave the poor kids alone, they’re only building dens in the woods for God’s sake.
Rhododendron bushes are not wild, they are an invasive species. If the kids kill a few of them off that’s a good thing.
How big could a fire get if it gets out of hand ect
