ENTRIES are being sought for the Warrington Competition for Young Musicians 2010 – with opportunities for musicians under 19 to win up to £400 plus a handsome trophy.
The competition, organised by the Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music (WACIDOM), is open to musicians who will be under 19 on April 1 next year and residents in the WA, CH, CW, L or BL postcode areas.
Just by entering the competition, the youngsters receive a masterclass from a professional musician, a written adjudication of their performance, a presentation and platform skills workshop and an opportunity to rehearse and perform with a professional accompanist, if required.
The competition is open to piano, any solo orchestral or brass band instrument, voice, recorder and classical guitar, all with piano accompaniment as required. Applicants must be recommended by their teacher or tutor.
Programmes should be balanced in content and contain some contrast and a minimum of two pieces by different composers is expected. Competitors will not be required to play from memory and can perform with their own accompanist if they wish, although an official accompanist will be available, with who rehearsal time will be available.
The competition is organised on two levels – the Upper Division for Associated Board Grade 7 standard and upwards or equivalent and the Lower Division for Grade 4-6 standard or equivalent.
Closing date for entries is November 21 and application forms are available from WACIDOM, 103, Common Lane, Culcheth, Warrington WA3 4HQ or from the website www.musicinwarrington.org.uk
