Youngsters inspired by the Rio Olympics

TALENTED youngsters have been inspired by the upcoming Rio Olympics to create a colourful display at Warrington’s Pyramid Arts Centre.
The free exhibition has already opened and runs until Friday May 27 and has been organised by Primary Arts Network, showcasing the colourful imagination of the town’s schoolchildren.
Vibrant displays feature all aspects of Brazilian life from the rainforest’s diverse creatures and vegetation to the sprawling city of Rio, its favelas and the awe-inspiring Christ the Redeemer statue which looks out over the city.
The children have created carnival costumes and masks, made their own Olympic Rings and winners’ medals, and decorated footballs with striking black and white prints.
Organiser Alison Rostron, head teacher of Thelwall Infant School, said: “This project means a lot to the children. They all get so excited about seeing their work on display in public.
“I really think visitors to the exhibition will be amazed by the diversity of all the different takes on the theme and the different ideas the children have come up with.  It really is amazing.”
The Primary Arts Network was set up more than 10 years ago by five Warrington head teachers with a passion for the arts because they felt it was being pushed out of the curriculum.
The project has since expanded with many more schools across the town getting together to create an annual exhibition based around a single theme.
This year’s theme ties in nicely with Warrington Festival, which will also be celebrating the Rio Olympics in September.
Exhibits are also on display at The Gateway Centre.
