Green Belt homes plan causes a storm

A PLAN to build 14 “park homes” on a former garden centre site at Lymm has caused a storm of protest.
The scheme, submitted by Arbor Living, is to be considered by members of Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee this week.
It involves the former Willow Pool Nursery site off Burford Lane.  It is in the Green Belt, but is classed as being on a “brown” site because of the former garden centre buildings which are still there.
The site has not been used for several years – but the proposals have angered many local people.
Lymm Parish Council has objected to the scheme, as have nine nearby residents.
Cllr Bob Barr says the proposals are controversial and of a scale that justifies close scrutiny.
“Park Homes” are described as quality homes and the proposal is to provide accommodation for people aged over 55.   The scheme involves restoring a wildflower meadow previously used for overflow parking by the garden centre.
Objectors say a nearby kennels creates a noise problem that will affect residents of the new properties. They say the development will do little for the local economic, environmental or social environment.
They argue that the development is inappropriate in the Green Belt and previous refusal of a housing development, which was turned down by Warrington Borough Council and subsequently failed on appeal, is evidence of this.
But planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.

  1. Hardly causing a ‘storm’ if only the Parish Council and nine residents have objected, oh and some words by Cllr Bar who seems to be sat on the fence there only saying it requires ‘scrutiny’. Got his name in the news though nearing election time ha ha. Anyway……the people objecting should perhaps go and look at the park home site at Moore (think it’s called Promenade Park). That’s for over 55’s too although there are more than 14 homes there.
It’s absolutely beautiful, very quiet and immaculately maintained by the residents and site owners. You can’t really compare maintained park home sites for over 55’s to housing developments of houses/flats. I know which I’d prefer on my doorstep.
