WARRINGTON fundraiser, Ted McCaffery, was given the honour of switching on the Downing Street Christmas lights for the Prime Minister.
Ted from Stockton Heath, a pupil at Grange Junior School who is a fundraising ambassador for Alder Hey Children’s hospital, was unaware of what was about to happen until his taxi pulled up at No. 10 for his appointment with Prime Minister David Cameron.
Mr Cameron presented Ted with a Point of Light award in recognition of his fundraising achievements, and the adversity that he has had to overcome to accomplish them, before inviting the 8-year-old to switch on the Downing Street Christmas lights.
Ted began fundraising for Alder Hey after undergoing lifesaving open heart surgery. Initially he wanted to raise enough money to replace a broken television at the hospital, but has since gone on to raise over £20,000!
Earlier this year, Ted received the Independent on Sunday Happy List Award during the annual JustGiving Award ceremony.
