THE fifth year of the residents’ campaign to reduce litter in the Westbrook area of Warrington will get under way on Saturday, February 28 when volunteers gather in Westbrook Crescent.
Organiser David Parr said: “Although sometimes it seems to be a fruitless task, there is strong evidence that we are making progress to raise community awareness about the problem of litter in Warrington.
“As a result of our efforts, in the last four years, we have collected nearly 1,000 bags of litter, estimated to weigh 4.7 tonnes, from the Westbrook, Great Sankey and Whittle Hall areas.
“This is an enormous contribution to the local community.”
Litter pickers, waste bags and tabards will be provided, but volunteers are asked to wear appropriate warm clothing and footwear.
Mr Parr said: “If you want to help clean up your area, meet some like-minded residents or just to get out into the fresh air and exercise after the long winter, please join us for a couple of hours on Saturday, February 28.”
