A nursery in Great Sankey is celebrating after being awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools: Early Years Green Award – a recognition available through the national programme.

Little Treasures Nursery has received the Green Award in recognition of its commitment to sustainability and for embedding environmental learning into everyday experiences for its youngest children.
Over the past year, children and staff have worked together on a wide range of eco-friendly projects, helping to create a greener nursery while teaching children the importance of protecting the planet from an early age.
As part of its environmental journey, the nursery has installed solar panels to generate renewable electricity, replaced all lighting with energy-efficient LED bulbs, introduced recycling facilities throughout the setting and swapped plastic milk containers for reusable glass bottles. The nursery has also introduced regular meat-free meals and continues to encourage children to grow their own vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Environmental learning has become part of everyday nursery life, with children exploring nature through gardening, outdoor learning, recycling activities and discussions about how small actions can make a big difference. Yoga and wellbeing activities have also been incorporated to help children develop a greater appreciation of themselves and the world around them.
Lisa Nugent, the owner of Little Treasures Nursery said: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved the Eco-Schools: Early Years Green Award. This recognition reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of our children, staff and families, who have embraced our eco journey every step of the way.
“We believe it’s never too early to teach children about caring for the environment. Seeing their excitement as they plant vegetables, recycle materials and learn how their actions can help protect our planet has been incredibly rewarding. We hope these experiences inspire lifelong habits that will make a positive difference for future generations.”
The nursery says achieving the Green Award is not the end of its sustainability journey and is committed to continuing to introduce new initiatives that reduce its environmental impact while inspiring children to become confident, responsible citizens.
Little Treasures Nursery would like to thank its families and the wider community for their continued support throughout its Eco-Schools journey and looks forward to building on this success in the years ahead.
