THE founder and organiser of Warrington Mela, Former Mayor Cllr Mo Hussain, has paid tribute to the organisations, sponsors, volunteers and community groups that have supported the event over the years.
With the town gearing up for this year’s festival this Sunday, September 6th, Cllr. Hussain said: “Warrington Mela would not be possible without the incredible support we’ve received from our sponsors, partners, volunteers and community organisations over the years. Their commitment has helped us grow the event into one of the borough’s most important celebrations of culture, inclusion and community spirit.
“Every year, people from different backgrounds come together to enjoy music, food, performances and shared experiences, and that’s only possible because so many organisations believe in what the Mela stands for.”
Cllr Sagheer Zaman, Chair of WECA and Mayor of Warrington, added: “We would like to thank everyone who has played a part in supporting Warrington Mela, whether through funding, sponsorship, volunteering or attending the event. We are proud of what we’ve achieved together and we’re excited to welcome people back to Queens Gardens this September.
“We’re planning for an even bigger and better Warrington Mela in 2026 and continuing to showcase the rich diversity that makes Warrington such a special place.”
Following the success of last year’s event, Warrington Mela will return to Queens Gardens, bringing together communities from across the borough for a vibrant celebration of culture, diversity and inclusion.
The popular event is funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), with further funding and in-kind contributions from sponsors and community partners including Culture Warrington, Warrington BID, the Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer Communities Fund, the Hoover Foundation, Cheshire Language Academy and Warrington Chamber Plus. The council does not provide funding for the event.
Warrington Mela is a multicultural community celebration that welcomes people of all ethnicities and backgrounds, showcasing traditions, music, dance, food and performances from a wide range of cultures. Its purpose is to create opportunities for people from all communities to come together, learn about different cultures and celebrate the diversity that makes Warrington a welcoming and vibrant place to live.
Throughout the day, visitors will enjoy performances reflecting the rich range of talent within Warrington’s communities, alongside family-friendly activities, arts and cultural experiences.
One of the festival’s highlights is its colourful international market, featuring cuisine from around the world, including Indian, Korean, Turkish, Greek and Chinese dishes.
Through music, food, arts and shared experiences, the programme is designed to encourage conversation, build understanding and strengthen connections between communities.
