PLANS for the development of a biomethane liquified natural gas (Bio-Lng) refuelling station and open storage area on land off Catalina Approach, Omega South Business Park, Warrington have been approved by borough planning chiefs.
Planners were told the development could be delivered without significant adverse impact on highway safety for all road users, the local environment and local infrastructure.
It would also contribute to improved local air quality.
It was located in an industrial area as ancillary infrastructure to support existing employment uses and the layout and design would be in keeping with the local industrial character.
The Bio-LNG use was also a recognised low carbon alternative to the use of diesel and would form part of the local and national infrastructure capable of delivering sustainable fuel to HGV’s. This infrastructure network would assist with the phasing out of diesel-powered HGV’s in support of national legislation to stop producing diesel powered HGVs in the UK by 2040.
The only HGV’s operated by the applicant and drawn to the site to facilitate the development proposed would be LNG tankers running on LNG; all other HGV’s will be customers purchasing LNG.
It was expected 75 per cent of customers (HGV’s) visiting the site will be from local firms already operating in and around the local area. This would bring a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and improvements in air quality.
There would be a number of national LNG powered vehicles passing on the M62 that would use
The facility to refuel on their journey. All these vehicles will be ultra low emission HGV’s and would bring improvements in local air quality.
