A team of determined fundraisers has raised an incredible £8,265 for Warrington-based national social care charity Making Space after completing a gruelling six-hour spinathon.
The fundraising challenge, organised by personal trainer Nicola Moore from Fitness & Moore and hosted by JD Gyms Warrington, saw 33 bikes filled for six hours of back-to-back spin classes.
Riders took on everything from fast-paced sessions and standing stomps to drills, climbs and an energetic final hour – battling the heat as they pedalled their way through the challenge.
The team had originally hoped to raise £3,000 for Making Space but have more than doubled their target, with donations still coming in.
Nicola Moore, who organised the event, said: “I’m so proud of everyone who took part. Not one person let me down – everyone turned up and gave it absolutely everything for six hours. It was incredibly tough, especially with the heat, but the atmosphere and determination in the room were amazing. Everyone went above and beyond and we’ve completely smashed our original target.
“We honestly loved every minute of making this event worthy of such an amazing amount, and we can’t thank everyone who has supported and donated enough.”
Making Space has supported people across England, including Warrington, who are living with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, dementia and the challenges associated with getting older, as well as unpaid carers.
Alongside funding received to deliver its commissioned services, fundraising enables Making Space to provide additional opportunities, activities and support that can make a significant difference to people’s lives.
Natalie Bargery, Corporate Fundraising Lead at Making Space, said: “£8,265 (inc. Gift Aid) is a fantastic amount and we are incredibly grateful to Nicola for organising the challenge, to every single rider who took part and to JD Gyms Warrington for hosting and supporting the event.
“Fundraising like this means so much to Making Space because it allows us to provide those important extras that sit outside statutory funding. Every penny raised goes directly to our frontline services and can make a real impact in people’s lives.
“It could help fund a day out for an unpaid carer who desperately needs a break, support a coffee morning where people experiencing mental health challenges can spend time with others, or provide essential items and projects that services would otherwise be unable to fund.
“The team has absolutely smashed its original target and we can’t thank everyone involved – and everyone who has donated – enough.”
The fundraiser remains open and anyone who would still like to support Nicola and the riders can donate at justgiving.com/page/nicola-moore-5.
